Cerebral tumors
Cerebral tumors represent a “family” of pathologies among which members are different one from others. Two different types are intra-axial (grows from the brain parenchyma) and extra-axial (grows around the brain parenchyma).
Extra-axial tumors are usually benign ones that grow from meningeal cells. With a slow growing, these tumors could compress the brain or create inflammation of it. For this reason, patients could present seizures or a progressive neurological sign. These tumors could increase in volume before having first neurological symptoms because of the very slow growing of the tumor. The first treatment is the microsurgical exeresis. Alternative therapies are radiotherapy and chemotherapy especially for recurrence. Dr Robert and Dr Bonasia have an important experience in the management and treatment of extra-axial tumors. This is a treatment they propose at Clinique La Source in Lausanne.

Intra-axial tumors are usually more aggressive because of their high tendency to recur. Neurological signs are different with usually signs of intracranial hypertension: headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness. In these cases, the knowledge of the histological diagnosis is mandatory that indicates the surgical exeresis or biopsy. Among these intra-axial tumors, lot of different histological diagnosis with completely different prognosis exist. After the surgery, these patients need complementary treatment as chemiotherapy or radiotherapy depending on the histological diagnosis. Dr Robert and Dr Bonasia propose this type of surgery at Clinique La Source in Lausanne.
